I've started to use a Wiki a bit at work and it is growing on me. Couple this with some increased cooking at home and I thought, wow a cooking and recipe gathering would be a great use of the collaborative editing and linking that a wiki provides.
I thought for sure I couldn't be the only who thought of this. I did some searching and did find the Food & Cooking Wiki but there doesn't seem to be a whole going on there and most of the entries are relatively old. I did however add some info to the Bocce Cafe page.
So should I embrace this wiki for adding my recipes or should I attempt to start my own?

Start your own! The world totally needs a recipewiki!

You must be bad at searching. How about learning that first?

Perceptions do not limit reality.

I am going to give my self a shameless plug and point out one of my pet projects.

I am slowly going through my mothers box of recipes and adding them when I get the time.

Another shameless plug.
While not a true Wiki (you need downloadable recipe software), BigOven contains over 150,000 recipes in an online archive, and you can edit them and contribute additional reviews. BigOven costs money ($29.95 at present time), but includes the ability to analyze nutritional content, and you can drag and drop any set of recipes onto a shopping list or meal calendar. Worth a look if you're investigating the recipe wiki concept.

There is at least one recipe wiki (also for food culture etc)
it's at http://www.spoonwiki.com

List the recipe/cooking wikis you like best, in order. Then contribute a little to each one and see which one best recognizes your contributions and fulfills your needs for everything you'd want to get out of your own recipe/cooking wiki. Become a regular contributor to that wiki.
The content you bring in the form of not just recipes but articles, ideas, tips, etc., will elevate your "pet" recipe wiki, and your contributions with it.
Starting one's own wiki is relatively easy. Creating a thriving community (the main purpose of a wiki, IMHO) is the difficult part.
I invite you to look at DishiWiki.com, a free, noncommercialized wiki where "friends share recipes and talk about food and cooking."
