Baba India Resturant

As one can tell, from a previous post on Cumin, I'm a big fan of Indian resturants. So I was excited to hear that a new place, Baba India Resturant opened recently in Oakley in what used to be the Hardees. I heard a rumor that it is owned by the same people who own Ambar India in Clifton. That is completely possible since the dinner specials seem very similiar if not exact. Well, I had to go, so Angela and I went to the place this evening.

The food was excellent. Angela had the Chicken Tikka Bharta which had some mildly spiced eggplant in it. I had the Lamb Saag which has spinach and light cream sauce. It was very good although not as tender as the Lamb from Cumin. Here is how I see the two resturants:

CuminGreat food
Excellent, modern contemporary decor and presentation
Smaller, focused menu

Baba IndiaGood food
Tons of parking
Lots of tables
Huge, expansive menu

So the big difference is that Cumin looks better but is small and has less parking. Baba India is less impressive looking (after all, it used to be a Hardees) but certainly makes up for it by having lots of tables and parking. The menus are a toss up for now (plus I haven't eaten much at Baba). The small menu at Cumin is nice because it feels manageable. The Baba menu is somewhat overwhelming...almost like the first time you ever saw a Chinese resturant menu. Its a toss up depending on what you like.

I think for the time being, Baba is the everyday place and Cumin is the place you take to impress someone.

Update: I think it is owned by the people who Akash India in downtown Cincinnati.

Update 2: I am positive Akash India downtown, Ambar India in Clifton and Baba India are all owned by the same people.

Cumin is pretty wanna-be-ish, taking Indian and trying to make it Hyde Park. Go to Baba, more authentic and much better.
