<title>New Year&apos;s Resolutions 2008</title>
<link>http://people.etango.com/~markm/archives/2008/01/06/new_years_resolutions_2008.html</link>
<description>So I am a week late but here are my New Year&apos;s Resolutions for 2008.

Weight Loss - I&apos;ve already doneone year of weight loss but since then I have really slacked off. I&apos;m back up to 215lbs. I&apos;d like to get down to 180. I am not planning on doing anything radical for this weight loss, just sticking to my old plan.

Media Organization - I hope to finish my project of adding captions and IPTC keyword metadata to my collection of digital photographs. Right now I have the years 2003-2006 yet to be completed (and of course all new photos need to go through this process). In addition to that, I need to get a more solid backup plan in place as well. Going forward I need to address a more rational plan on how to store, access and backup my growing collection of digital media. Lastly, once the captioning and tagging is complete, I&apos;d like to work on geocoding the photographs.

Home Improvement - I&apos;d like to take on and complete some standard home improvement tasks like replacing the thermostat with a programmable one and wrapping the hot water pipes with insulation. Not exactly groundbreaking stuff but the house has a way of adding new stuff to the Todo list without seeking your approval first.

<description>Hey Mark - good luck with the resolutions! You and I have met once before, I believe... I&apos;m a friend of Jason V&apos;s.

Anyway, wanted to offer some suggestion on #2; I&apos;d suggest you take two steps. First, got to Microcenter and pick up one or two 500GB external USB drives - they&apos;re selling them for $109 right now which is a pretty hot deal. Second, sign up with Mozy or Carbonite &amp; let them roll. It&apos;ll take a long time to get the initial backup complete (even on a relatively fast connection), but it&apos;s great once you&apos;re past that point. I&apos;ve got more info on my blog here:

cheers!
