Belgian Waffles in Cincinnati

Belgian WafflesFor the seven months that I lived in Belgium, one of my most favorite mini-traditions that I established was my weekend stroll for waffles. I would wake up, get dressed and then walk down the Toison d'Or passing lots of famous name boutiques and lots of people speaking with me not understanding anything. The little waffle stand that I went to was about 3 blocks away and it was so very nice to have a sweet, warm waffle to enjoy on the walk back. It was also a chance to use my meager French ("un sucre, S'il Vous Plaît").

Now I can relive my sweet memories with Taste from Belgium. They are offering the Liège waffle that I remember from my time in Europe at several locations around the city. Angela and I tried them at The Coffee Shop on Madison in O'Bryanville today and I will say that they are very good. The only thing different about these was that they didn't have the pronounced sugar crystal center that provided a textural contrast. Otherwise it was very good and the Coffee Shop was very nice. I must admit that despite all of my marathon training that took us into O'Bryanville a lot, I never remember the coffee shop being there. The place was spacious, clean and bright and the staff was very friendly. It was if Pleasant Perk here in Pleasant Ridge were twice as big. We ate our waffles and drank our coffee while watching the street life through their large windows. You certainly can tell that it is New Year's Resolution time by the more than 50 runners that we saw run by in the 45 minutes that we were there.

This will certainly be something that I try again.
